This might be the biggest question mark in the meet as there is very little experience in this field with only 1 returning scorer. Mollin was 13th 2 years ago adding nearly 4 seconds from sectionals, but she swam a much more measured race this year and is actually slower than she was 2 years ago which leads me to believe she has some left in the tank. Tuma dropped 18 and if she breaks 5 minutes again it would be a great effort. I can see Bokos or the St. Charles girls giving Tuma a run for second in that heat.
Reader is our one returning scorer and I expect her to try and set the tone in the middle heat. Nobody else has previously been under 5 minutes in this heat. Hendrickson was 4:56 at sectionals, but that was over a 15 second drop which like I alluded to with Tuma is typically a harbinger for doom the next week. I like Bucaro, Guist and Wood Prince all more than Dorshorst based on past results. Dorshorst added 5 seconds at state 2 years ago, which might still score, but not top 6. All these girls have broken 5 minutes and it should be the best heat of the event. Top 3 finishers in this heat are probably top 6, but 4th is not going to feel great unless there are only 2 good swims prior to this.
