This might shape up as the best event in the meet, or at least in the running with the breaststroke as Wille moved over from 2 years ago and obviously Hayes arriving on the scene. Novelline was a near state champ against Cooper 2 years ago and Tracy scored as a freshman. In most events in the meet this would qualify as the best circle, but the 3rd circle is loaded.
The middles circle has no previous scorers, but Kerr has been one of the best sprinters in the state all season. For the record Tracy and Kerr went identical times at the sectional and could swap spots in the actual heat sheet. It’s hard not to be skeptical of Chow when she is already almost a second under her lifetime best. She can probably hang on in the 50, but she likely ends up bottom here. The final circle gives us Shimada who was top 2 years ago, Ma who was bottom, Wille who bailed on a top 6 in the breast to swim the 100 and Hayes who enters as a kind of co-favorite with Novelline to win the event. If you aren’t top 2 coming into the last circle you should be real nervous about getting knocked to the bottom.
